Transport, the sector with a credit “boom” - BoA: It recorded the

Banks have continued to support the commercial activity of private businesses with financing during March. According to the Bank of Albania, new loans to businesses across 21 economic activities reached 25.4 billion lek in March.

But which sectors have been supported with more financing from banks?

Businesses in wholesale and retail trade, vehicle and bicycle repair are again those that have received the most loans from banks.

The amount of new credit received by these businesses was 6.9 billion lek. With a credit of 5.3 billion lek, the processing industry is the second most financed sector by banks, while businesses in transportation and storage are third on the list of most financed sectors.

Despite businesses in the wholesale and retail trade sector having the highest value of new loans in March, businesses operating in the transportation and warehousing sector had the largest increase in loan amounts compared to February.

Specifically, credit for this sector went from 188 million in February to 4.3 billion lek in March, so we are dealing with a significant increase, over 2000% of the value of the credit.

Regarding businesses that have not received any loans from banks or have received very little financing, the monthly statistics of the Bank of Albania show that the loan received to cover the activities of international organizations and bodies is zero, the loan received for public administration and defense, mandatory social security, arts, entertainment and recreation is also zero.

Agriculture continues to be underfinanced by banks, as they view it as a risky sector. Agriculture is also considered a highly informal sector that cannot meet bank collateral requirements, and as a result, banks tend to be more reluctant to approve loans to this sector.

On the other hand, agricultural businesses see banks as too bureaucratic in the criteria and procedures for approving a new loan. Data shows that new loans granted to agricultural businesses by banks fell to 82 million lek during March.
