Annual vehicle tax/DPSHTRR: Payment within the deadline avoids paying for two

The General Directorate of Road Transport Services announced that vehicle owners must pay the vehicle tax within the validity period to avoid paying for two years at once.

The DPSHTRR shared on social networks the relevant clarification regarding the Annual Used Vehicle Tax (TVMP) and citizens' dilemmas regarding payment terms.

The DPSHTRR explains that, "since you have not paid the tax (TVMP) for 2024 within the validity period, you are considered in 2025 as a debtor for 2024. At the moment you appear at the counter in 2025, you must pay the arrears of 2024, including the interest accrued for that obligation."

DPSHTRR emphasizes that, "being a debtor for the year 2024 in 2025 penalizes you in the validity of the tax validity period for the year 2025. The annual tax on used means of transport is an annual tax for each calendar year from January 1 to December 31 of the respective year, for which it is calculated and paid and is valid for 365 days, regardless of the moment at which it is paid. So you are not paying taxes for two years. Simply, on January 1, the obligation for the tax for the year 2025 arose and in the meantime the late payment of the year 2024 affects the validity period for the tax for the year 2025, so they are paid at once."

The DPSHTRR announces that, if a vehicle is not used for several months, to avoid paying taxes, their owners can temporarily deregister it.
