"Exchange rate, properly monitored" - IMF Representative, Sebastian Sosa, in meeting with Governor Sejko
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) will continue to provide technical assistance to the Bank of Albania in the future. Recently, the Governor of the Bank of Albania, Gent Sejko, held a meeting with the IMF's Regional Resident Representative for the Western Balkans, Sebastian Sosa, where the economic performance of our country was discussed.
Considering the strong movements in the exchange rate over the last two years, the IMF Representative appreciated the continuous monitoring that the Bank of Albania has done of the foreign exchange market, without violating its free regime. Sebastian Sosa praised the work and results achieved by the Bank of Albania in terms of strengthening the country's monetary and financial stability.
He focused on the importance of returning inflation to target and expressed support for the measures of the Bank of Albania. Sosa also congratulated Governor Sejko on Albania's membership in the SEPA geographical area, as an important historical moment in the country's journey towards European integration.
Governor Sejko presented to the representatives of the International Monetary Fund the program recently approved by the Bank of Albania for financing micro, small and medium-sized businesses, which aims to create a financing instrument for commercial banks that can be used by them to support improved access to credit.
Regarding the monetary policy pursued by the Bank of Albania, Sejko stated that inflation is expected to return to the 3% target during 2025.
