Automatic exchange of data on cross-border payments - Taxes completes

The Tax Administration takes an important step towards European standards. This institution has finalized the preliminary phase of harmonizing legislation for the establishment of a system for the automatic exchange of data on cross-border payments (CESOP), which aims to advance the fight against VAT fraud and increase transparency in e-commerce.

The goal, according to taxes, is for the legal harmonization process to be fully completed by 2026, while the reporting system is expected to be developed no later than 2029, marking a significant chapter for the Albanian Tax Administration on the path to harmonization with EU standards and modernization of tax administration.

Meanwhile, 3 days ago the Council of Ministers approved the "Strategy for the Modernization and Harmonization of Albanian Customs Information Systems with European Union Systems, for the period 2025–2030", along with the corresponding action plan.

This strategic document marks an important step towards full compliance of customs systems with EU information technology standards and architecture.

The main objective of the strategy is that by 2030, Albania will have a customs infrastructure fully harmonized with the EU Customs Code, facilitating gradual integration into the European common market and consolidating the membership process.

The strategy aims to harmonize and complete the legal framework for customs information systems, in accordance with European Union requirements.
