Solar energy reached 29% of the total - Cause, the decline in production from HPPs and the entry into generation of new power plants

The entry into production of solar power plants has significantly increased the energy produced from this source in the third 3 months of the year. According to data from the Institute of Statistics, for the period July - September, photovoltaic plants generated 311,397 mWh of energy, constituting 29% of the total energy from domestic sources.
Compared to the third quarter of 2024, the increase is estimated at 17.2%, as last year photovoltaic energy accounted for only 11.8% of the total. The increase recorded this year comes from the increase in solar plants that have entered production, as a very large number of them have started operating after July of last year.
However, it is worth noting that the increase in the share of solar energy to 29%, in relation to the total energy generated in the country, is also related to the decline in production from hydropower plants due to the lack of rainfall.
Meanwhile, the weight of solar energy is expected to increase further, as a number of projects have already advanced with the procedures for obtaining the necessary permits and starting the construction of power plants on the ground.
In previous years, a number of companies have been licensed to produce solar energy, bringing the total number of licensed companies in this activity to 66, with projects totaling around 764 MW. This includes plants that are already in production. However, private investor interest in this venture remains high, with many applications submitted to the relevant authorities.
