Energy losses fell by 0.8% - The improvement in the indicator came from the distribution system, with transmission increasing

Electricity losses in the network decreased during the third quarter of 2025 compared to the same period a year earlier. According to data from the Institute of Statistics, losses reached 323 gWh in the period July - September, from 344 gWh in the third quarter of 2024.
According to INSTAT, the share of network losses in total available electricity during the third quarter of 2025 is 16% from 16.8% in the period July - September 2024, marking a decrease of 0.8%.
The impact on the decline in energy losses has been provided by the distribution network, as for the transmission network, losses for the first 3 months of this year have increased. Losses in the distribution network are divided into technical and non-technical losses, while according to data from INSTAT, both technical losses, which come as a result of the depreciated network, and non-technical losses, which include energy theft, have decreased.
More specifically, during the period July - September 2025, 223,361 mWh of energy results in technical losses, while 54,766 mWh, non-technical.
In fact, the Distribution System Operator has announced that it has undertaken numerous checks for electricity abuses at various entities in the country, which seems to have also led to their reductions.
