How can the price of energy be reduced in Albania? - The application is submitted to ERE, alternatives for the relief of family members
The Albanian government has announced a reduction in the price of electricity starting from January 1 next year. But what are the links in which the process must pass? The first step is undoubtedly the application to the Energy Regulatory Entity. The application to the Entity, this time, can be made in a different period than in previous years. Usually, requests for tariff changes are made in the September-October period, but ERE's practices show that the review can be carried out in time, in order to achieve that on January 1, 2025, new tariffs come into force.
According to the statements of the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Belinda Balluku, the price reduction request will be based on the optimization of the technical and financial processes of the 3 public energy companies, which are OSHEE, KESH and OST
Normally, there are many components that are taken into consideration, as one of the forms that can be followed is the reduction of the sales price applied by KESH for OSHEE for household consumers, which is currently at the rate of 2.6 ALL/kWh. This would reduce the costs of purchasing electricity from FSHU, which is one of the OSHEE Group companies for this category of consumers, reflecting in the price reduction. In this case, the burden will have to be borne by KESH.
Interventions can also be carried out in energy distribution tariffs, which are an integral part of the price. This would be followed by a decrease in income for OSSH, which is the other company of OSHEE Group, but to some extent this can be compensated by the decrease in network losses. According to the data, in the period from January to September of this year, from the improvement of losses, the financial benefit is estimated at 5.6 million euros, based on current market prices.
Currently, there are several categories of customers who are charged different prices for the energy they consume. However, the highest number is made up of family subscribers, as the defined tariff is 9.5 ALL/kWh.
This price also applies to places of worship and religious communities. For businesses connected to 20, 10 and 6 kV voltage, a fee of 11 ALL/kWh is applied, while businesses connected to 0.4 kV voltage are charged 14 ALL/kWh for the energy they consume
Meanwhile, a few months ago, the new charging scheme for bakeries and pastry shops was also approved. According to the new scheme, for bakeries that do not have any other integrated activity, the price is 7.6 ALL/kWh. Meanwhile, for those premises that have bread ovens, pastry products or other dough products, the price that will be applied will be 9.5 ALL/kWh. The third category includes those premises that are more extensive and include espresso, bar and coffee, for which the price will be 12 ALL/kWh.
