Railways, how much will the government invest in 2025? - Balluku: We are studying new projects. We increased the budget for this sector by 15.2%
The Tirana-Durrës railway and the connection with the International Airport of Tirana, the railway Vorë - Hani i Hoti, Durrës - Rrogozhinë, Rrogozhinë-Vlorë, Vlorës Airport - City Center and beyond, or the study for the construction of the Tirana-Shkodër-Gjakovë railway, are the largest railway projects in Albania.
In the Committee for Production Activities, Trade and Environment, Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku, at the same time Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, explained how many billion lek will be dedicated to railway transport from the budget for 2025.
"This program has a total budget of 6 billion ALL, with an increase of 802.7 million ALL or 15.2% compared to the budget law of 2024. Also, part of this budget is the study for connecting the railway line of Vlora Airport with the existing line, i.e. with the rail transport coming from Fieri and the study for the Rrogozhinë-Vlorë rail line, just as it is in the case of Albania-Kosovo railway, i.e. Tirana-Shkodër-Gjakovë, which is considered a national project. The Albanian government is already working intensively for the rise and recovery of this sector. So today we are advancing with one of the most important projects which is the one that connects Tirana with Tirana International Airport and then with Durres and the Port of Durres. We are in a satisfactory progress, over 78% of this project has been completed."
During her speech, Balluku focused on the modernism of the railway system.
"A very important component in the modernization of the Albanian railway network is the electrification component, since we will no longer have trains that are supplied with coal, such as the existing locomotives, but all the new lines that will be built, or are rehabilitated, they will be associated with the voltage line, that is, with the electric line that will be the main and only supplier of trains that will operate in the Republic of Albania."
The revitalization of the Albanian railway is one of the main priorities of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy, which is expected to bring many benefits and facilities for citizens and the development of the economy as a whole.
