How will the streets of the former Blloku be transformed? - Elimination of parking lots and expansion of pedestrian areas
In recent years, the capital has undergone an urban transformation, including the increase in pedestrian spaces. Skanderbeg Square was the project that transformed from a heavy traffic area into a wide space for pedestrians. Likewise, “Murat Toptani” street is one of the oldest pedestrian streets in Tirana and one of the popular walking destinations.
"The newest project in the capital envisages the return of the former Blloku to a pedestrian zone, where the focus will be on redesigned urban spaces. This project envisages the resizing of "Ismail Qemali" streets, "Brigada VIII" street, and "Pjetër Bogdani" street. But what does this project envisage and what will be the changes that will be made?"
"Ismail Qemali" Street, being a main street, will have a bicycle lane and two will be designed into a parking row. Also on this street, elements such as curbs, other elements such as bench seats for citizens, bicycle traffic dividers will be added. Meanwhile, the colors will be the same as those used for the bench seats of Skanderbeg Square, or Zogu i Parë Boulevard.
"Meanwhile, on "Pjetër Bogdani" and "Brigada VIII" streets, the car parking row will be turned into a pedestrian zone. This will also contribute to the businesses in the area, in addition to being more comfortable for pedestrians and more flexible."
The project is also applied at the intersections of these roads and “Sami Frashëri” street, and includes some refinishing of “Vaso Pasha” street. Also, safe squares will be built in front of educational institutions, which will enable easier and safer access for children, reducing traffic risks and creating a more suitable environment for parents and students.
