How will the new salaries in tourism affect prices? - Experts: Increase in prices in services and accommodation expected
The General Directorate of Taxes has set reference salaries for 45 professions in tourism, ranging from 550 euros to 1,400 euros, notifying businesses that those applying lower declared salaries will become the subject of a more in-depth investigation.
But experts predict that the increase in declarations during the tourist season will translate into increased costs for businesses, such as social and health insurance, which will also lead to increased prices for citizens and tourists.
Kujtim Dervishi, President of the Albanian Restaurant and Inn Association:
"Prices will increase to reach this salary level that the General Directorate of Taxes has determined, there will be an increase in the entire tourism sector. Meanwhile, the quality of tourists visiting Albania will also increase, if today low-level tourists with very little spending come, in the future it will change. If these salaries are set, it is necessary to increase prices."
Avni Tobli, Legal Auditor:
"If an employee at a low level of the hierarchy of a restaurant or a bar on the coast was paid 40 thousand lek until yesterday and today will be paid a declared salary of 60 thousand lek, given that the restaurant mainly employs service workers, then the increase for a 50 euro lunch will be 50% and will go to 75 euros."
Meanwhile, entities operating in the tourism sector will, during this period, also be the object of continuous controls and investigations with the aim of avoiding tax evasion and real declaration of income.
