Biofuels also in Albania - Projekltigji, Muçaj: We will reach 7% in 2030.
At least 1% of the fuel traded during 2025 will be bio. The draft law “On the production, transport, trade and use of biofuels and other renewable fuels for transport”, which determines for the first time the minimum annual quantities of biofuels on the market, has begun to be discussed in parliamentary committees, paving the way for its approval.

According to him, the percentage of biofuels in the fuel mix is proposed to gradually increase by 1% each year, to reach 7% in 2030.

"It will regulate this sector and above all, it will provide the opportunity for us to use biofuels in pure form or in the form of a mixture with other fuels in the Republic of Albania up to a level of 7%, by regulating them in a fundamental way with the aim of ensuring the sustainability of the use of these fuels, by specifically determining the method of calculation, obtaining information and especially their monitoring for predetermined purposes", - said the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Enkelejda Muçaj.

Muçaj also focused on the importance of approving this law from an environmental point of view.

"This law aims to promote the contribution to fulfilling the commitments of the Republic of Albania for greenhouse gas emissions resulting from the consumption of hydrocarbons in this sector and, taking into account that transport is the largest contributor of carbon dioxide in the country, so to speak, to reduce the effects we have on the climate and climate change, which are a fundamental problem in the country", - said the deputy minister.

The draft law foresees that biofuels that will be marketed in our country will cost about 50% cheaper than other fuels, as they will be exempt from taxes and fees, with the aim of price competition and increasing consumption.
