Loans for pensioners are "released" - Agreement between three institutions, collateral is the properties they own
Pensioners will be given the green light to access credit. The 2025-2030 aging plan document, approved by the government, states that an analysis of the current situation has identified that the elderly in Albania have limitations in accessing banking and financial services.
These restrictions in the banking system are accompanied by higher commissions than other age groups in obtaining loans to open a small business, with the aim of increasing income.
According to the document, seniors aged 60+ are unable to put their owned assets into use, such as houses, land (farmers), because they do not have access to a small loan or overdraft, where insufficient income is considered the reason, and this hinders their self-employment and income security.
For this reason, the signing of an agreement between the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, and the Central Bank on facilities for the elderly in the banking system is planned.
Referring to the document, at least 2 second-tier banks have offered easing criteria for senior citizens applying for loans.
The document highlights that the financial system should be involved in designing more attractive policies for this age group. This would enable older people to be active in the labor market and integrated.
The expected results of this initiative are the creation of opportunities for self-employment and an active life, as well as protection from discrimination for physically and mentally able individuals aged 60+.
