Diaspora vote becomes more expensive - CEC requests additional 9.3 million euros

The Central Election Commission (CEC) has requested additional funds from the Parliament and the Ministry of Finance for the emigrant voting process for the general parliamentary elections on May 11. According to the CEC, an additional 7.5 million euros are needed to cover the postal service, bringing the total for this item to 12.5 million euros.

Additionally, an additional 870 thousand euros are requested for support for electronic voting, 280 thousand euros for salaries and insurance for temporary employees, 263 thousand euros for information technology systems, etc. The CEC seeks to hire 80 additional employees for the diaspora.

The number of daily requests from emigrants has increased by 6 thousand applications, while the average number of approved voters per day is 3,900. At this rate, the CEC predicts that with a few days left before March 4, the last day of registration, a figure of 250,000 approved voters from the diaspora is expected.

According to official data on the registration of overseas voters, by noon on Tuesday, 225,723 voters had applied for registration, with 181,298 of them having their applications approved.

According to the CEC, citizens whose applications have been rejected can reapply without restriction until March 4. The application where voters abroad can register is available in various forms, starting from the official website of the Election Commission, but can also be downloaded as an application on the phone.
