Apple, 500 billion USD in 4 years - Investment focuses on "AI", will create about 20,000 jobs in the US
Apple plans to help build a massive factory in Texas by 2026 to build artificial intelligence servers. The initiative will add about 20,000 research and development jobs across the US.
The company said the investment value over the next four years includes everything from acquisitions of US suppliers to filming TV shows and movies for its Apple TV+ service.
The move comes after media reports that Apple CEO Tim Cook met with President Donald Trump last week. Many of Apple's products assembled in China could face 10% tariffs imposed by Trump earlier this month, although the iPhone maker secured some "exemptions" from China's tariffs during the first Trump administration.
Most of Apple's consumer products are assembled outside the U.S., although many of Apple's components are still made there. The company also said last month it began mass-producing its own chips at a factory in Arizona owned by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC).
Apple announced that it will work to build a facility in Houston, where it will assemble servers that go into data centers to power Apple Intelligence, its suite of artificial intelligence features. Those servers are currently outside the US, according to company sources.
Also targeted is a manufacturing academy in Michigan where its engineers, along with local university staff, will offer free courses to small and medium-sized manufacturing firms in areas such as project management and manufacturing process optimization.
