New electricity network in the Albanian Alps - Tourism development, investment contract worth 2.3 million euros signed
Construction of a new distribution network to increase access to electricity in the Albanian Alps". This is the investment that is expected to be realized through a contract worth around 2.3 million euros, signed between the Albanian Development Fund and the merger of operators Enbi Power and Aci Engineering. The announcement of the signing of the contract was made by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, which carried out the tender procedures for this investment.
The intervention in the electricity network in the Albanian Alps will be carried out within the framework of the 106 million euro project for Infrastructure and Tourism in Albania. The project is financed by the European Union through technical assistance and investment grants, in the amount of 46 million euro, as well as from the additional sovereign loan provided by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development of 60 million euro.
The tender was opened in the EBRD's procurement system last year, and companies had until October 29, 2024, to submit their bids.
Investments in the electricity sector in areas with tourist potential have been in the spotlight recently, taking into account the increased load on the electricity grid due to the increase in the number of users.
While most of these investments have been concentrated in coastal areas, the potential offered by the north of the country in terms of tourism development has stimulated the need for investments in these areas as well.
Meanwhile, in addition to the electricity network, within the framework of the Infrastructure and Tourism project, the EBRD has previously opened several other tenders, focusing on investments in roads and sewerage.
