Albanians "break" record with annual car purchases - In 10 years, they doubled the number, exceeding 1 million

In 2014, there were around 490,000 vehicles circulating in Albania. Ten years later, in 2025, this number exceeded 1 million for the first time, more than doubling.
This means that within a decade, about 500 thousand cars have been added. Divided into years, the increase results in an average of about 45–47 thousand cars added each year.
But the data shows that this growth has not been the same throughout the period. In the early years, the annual increase was more moderate, usually 30–40 thousand cars per year. After 2018, the pace began to accelerate.
In 2021, over 60 thousand cars were added to the road, while in 2023, the addition exceeded 70 thousand. While 2024 marked the highest level, with over 90 thousand new cars in just one year.
2025 has continued the same trend, bringing the total number of vehicles beyond the symbolic threshold of 1 million.
According to the data structure, most of the added cars are for personal use, while the growth of work vehicles has been significantly slower.
In relation to the population, this increase is significant. Based on the 2023 Population Census, Albania has about 1.9 million people over the age of 18. This means that today about one in two adults owns a car.
Compared to other Balkan countries, Albania ranks among the countries with the highest level of car ownership.
Data shows that car buying has become a steady and growing trend, with faster rates in recent years than at the beginning of the decade.
