Greece to change Constitution - Mitsotakis initiates procedures: It's time
The Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, has sent a message to citizens on the occasion of the start of the national dialogue on the Constitutional Review. In his message, he presented the basic guidelines of the proposal, emphasizing the importance of the review for the creation of a modern model of governance.

The current Constitution of Greece was adopted almost 50 years ago, in 1975.

“It is time to dare to make major changes that will strengthen the prestige of the institutions and the trust of citizens, introducing regulations for the better functioning of the system in the face of the great challenges of the era and keeping pace with new data, such as artificial intelligence and the climate crisis,” emphasized Mitsotakis.

He added that the goal is a bold Constitutional Review, which will respond to the needs of developments. "Therefore, it must, in any case, also foresee controls that will guarantee permanent fiscal balance, sustainable government action, but also the correctness of party promises, so that the country never again slips into the dangerous paths of populism. Those who hide the catastrophic consequences they cause, something for which, unfortunately, we have paid dearly", said Mitsotakis. The Greek Prime Minister

has called on parties and citizens to engage in constructive reflection. "With positive proposals and a sense of shared responsibility towards the homeland and the future. A request from society itself, which requires a broader consensus. With essential arguments beyond party conveniences and the goal of a modern European democracy. A dynamic step forward that we must and can all take together. Moreover, the Constitution itself requires consensus from us if we really want to achieve the major changes that our statute requires", concludes his message to the citizens, the Prime Minister of Greece.
