More seasonal foreign workers in the US - 65,000 visas will be added for 2026.

President Donald Trump's administration will add about 65,000 H-2B visas for seasonal foreign workers through Sept. 30, the Federal Register reported. The visas will be available to employers facing severe financial hardship due to a shortage of American workers.

The move roughly doubles the 66,000 visas available each year for businesses such as construction, hospitality and seafood processing, as American employers in these sectors may have difficulty finding workers.

Trump launched a broad crackdown on immigration after returning to the White House in 2025, portraying undocumented immigrants as criminals. His administration has also tightened the rules on legal immigration, with sweeping travel bans and vetting of refugee and asylum cases.

The number of visas available was also expanded under the administration of Joe Biden, a Democrat, as well as Trump during his 2017-2021 presidency.

Employers in seasonal businesses, including hotels, have been requesting more visas. Some construction businesses have complained of a shortage of workers during Trump's aggressive immigration crackdown. Groups that favor lower immigration levels oppose the visas, saying they lower wages for American workers.

Trump has made it harder for tech businesses to secure workers through the H-1B visa program, adding a $100,000 fee that has sparked a legal challenge. A temporary rule making additional H-2B visas available will be officially published in the Federal Register on Tuesday.
