Albanians withdrew more money from ATMs - BoA: In January-November 2024, the transaction record of 2023 was exceeded
Despite the fact that in November there was a decrease in transactions carried out through ATMs, in 11 months the record of 2023 was exceeded. In the period January-November 2024, more money was withdrawn and deposited through ATMs than in the previous year.
At the end of the eleven-month period, it is estimated that a total of 340 billion lek were withdrawn from ATMs, while around 45 billion were deposited.
The latest data from the Bank of Albania shows that in November, 1.8 million card withdrawals and deposits were made through ATMs, of which 1.7 million were withdrawals only, while 94 thousand were deposit transactions. The number of deposits continues to be very small, because there are still some second-tier banks that do not include money deposits in their ATMs, a service that is highly requested by citizens, which sometimes forces them to wait in long lines at banks to carry out this simple transaction.
On the other hand, in terms of the value of transactions, the amount withdrawn by Albanians in November was recorded at 32 billion lek, while the amount deposited was only 4.2 billion. As a result of the lower number of transactions, the total value of operations was also lower.
In the third quarter, there was also an increase in the number of ATMs. More ATMs installed increases citizens' access to banking services.
