Albanians, among the last in Europe for home banking - Eurostat: Only 18.5% of the population uses the internet for transactions from the phone

Despite the fact that the number of Albanians who choose to perform banking transactions through online banking applications or websites has increased year by year, we continue to be among the last in Europe in terms of the percentage of the population who use the internet for this purpose.
According to data from the European Statistical Agency (Eurostat), only 18.5% of Albanians use the internet to access online banking services. Albania, along with Montenegro, ranks last in the region and Europe in terms of home banking usage.
In the Western Balkans, North Macedonia is positioned better with about 36.7% of Macedonians making home banking transactions.
Meanwhile, the Nordic countries are the first on the continent, with over 95% of their population using the internet to conduct banking transactions via phone.
From January to August of this year, Albanians have carried out 7.2 million home banking transactions, which amount to 1.7 billion lek. The latest statistics from the Bank of Albania show that in August there was a drastic decrease of 4.4% in the number of home banking operations and 5.7% in the amount of transactions.
However, there is a significant increase compared to last year. So, judging by ourselves, we have improved, but compared to the region and Europe, we remain far behind.
Home banking, also known as home banking, is used to make money transfers, pay taxes, electricity, water, telephone bills, police fines, credit card payments, and more, without the need to appear at physical bank branches.
Making transfers through mobile banking apps saves much more time than those carried out at physical branches, as transactions can often be completed within minutes at home.
The increase in transactions carried out through bank applications or online websites is an indicator of the digitalization of banking services, while further increasing the financial inclusion of citizens, as well as the transparency of banking operations.
