Albanians consumed 600 thousand tons of fuel in 11 months - How have excise goods performed during this period?
Albanian citizens and tourists have consumed around 600 thousand tons of fuel in 11 months. The official data of the General Directorate of Customs shows a significant increase in the import of fuel from year to year, making 2024 set the record of the last 5 years.
Compared to the previous year, the import of this product has increased by about 39,000 tons. Also, in the month of November alone, nearly 52 thousand tons of fuel were imported, a much higher figure compared to November of previous years.
This performance comes as a result of the increase in the flow of tourists in our country, mainly in the last two years, where a good part of them come with personal vehicles and a part rent vehicles to visit as many places as possible. On the other hand, there is also a growing trend of Albanian citizens moving during the summer season or weekends, a rhythm that has continued during the autumn and winter months, taking advantage of the good weather that the country offers.
On the other hand, the import of beer in 11 months has reached the record of the last 5 years, where nearly 54 thousand tons were imported. The increase in the import of this product is also due to the good tourist season, but also due to the fact that the unification of the excise duty for local production has brought a disadvantage to the factories operating in Albania and has created more ground for importers. However, for the month of November, the import of beer has decreased compared to the same month of previous years.
On the other hand, the import of cigarettes has an 11-month decrease compared to the same period last year, registering an amount of 2,844 tons imported during January-November, from 2,924 tons recorded in the same period a year ago. first, but there is a slight increase during the months of November compared to November 2023.
Likewise, the import of coffee has registered a slight decrease of 107 tons compared to the previous year, where 7902 tons were imported during the period January-November 2024. But in the month of November, the amount of coffee bought from abroad registered an increase.
Revenues from excise duty in 11 months realized in the amount of 57.8 billion ALL, 4.8 billion ALL or 9.1% more than the same period of 2023.
