Tirana "breaks" other insurance circles - AMF: It dominates with 62% of premiums in the country. In 2024, per capita payments also increased
Tirana turns out to have paid more money to insure life, car or property during the past year.
The latest data from the Financial Supervisory Authority shows that nearly 62.1% of gross written premiums are concentrated in the Tirana region, followed by Durrës with around 7.2% and Korça with 5.2%. Meanwhile, Kukës, Dibra and Gjirokastra have the lowest percentage of gross written premiums, approximately 0.9%, 1.7% and 1.8%.
This dominance of Tirana with more than half of the premiums nationwide comes from the fact that the majority of the population is concentrated in Tirana, while insurance companies also have a larger number of branches spread throughout the capital, which means that citizens have easier access. Also, if we take into account the fact that the majority of loans granted for home purchases are in Tirana and banks always require property and life insurance when granting loans, it is not surprising that such a large concentration of premiums in the capital is so high.
However, if we compare it with 2023, most regions have had a decrease in gross written premiums. Only Fier, Dibra, Lezha and Shkodra result in a slight increase.
Meanwhile, per capita premiums have increased by 8.8% compared to the previous year. According to the Financial Supervisory Authority, per capita premiums were 10,364 lek in 2024, up from 9,526 lek in 2023.
In terms of per capita premiums by region, the capital with 20,011 lek per capita ranks first, followed by Durrës with 7,885 lek per capita and Vlora also with 7,819 lek per capita. On the other hand, Kukës and Berat had the lowest per capita premiums in the past year.
As for damages, in which counties have insurance companies paid the most?
Again, the largest share of paid damages is in the Tirana region with 67.94%, followed by Durrës with 10.10%.
