Albanians, "give up" coffee and cigarettes? - Imports fall. Fuel and beer, on better days
Fuel is a product from which Albanian citizens are not limited, as customs data show an increase in imports and consumption from year to year. In 10 months, it turns out that nearly 548 thousand tons of fuel were imported, reaching the record level of the last 5 years. Also, in the month of October alone, over 53,000 tons of fuel were imported, a much higher figure compared to October of previous years.
This performance comes as a result of the increase in the flow of tourists in our country, mainly in the last two years, where a good part of them come with personal vehicles and a part rent vehicles to visit as many places as possible. On the other hand, there is also a growing trend of Albanian citizens moving during the summer season or weekends, a rhythm that has continued during the autumn months, taking advantage of the good weather that the country offers.
On the other hand, the import of beer in 10 months has reached the record of the last 5 years, where nearly 51 thousand tons were imported. The increase in the import of this product is also due to the good tourist season, but also due to the fact that the unification of the excise duty for local production has brought a disadvantage to the factories operating in Albania and has created more ground for importers
While the opposite happened with the other two excise products, cigarettes and tobacco.
The import of cigarettes has a 10-month decrease compared to the same period last year, registering a quantity of 2570 tons imported during January-October. as well as a decrease during the months of October.
Likewise, the import of coffee was recorded in a decrease of 394 tons compared to the previous year, where 6994 tons were imported during the period January-October 2024. Even during the month of October, the amount of coffee bought from abroad has decreased, which also shows the trend of consumption of this product.
Revenues from excise duty in 10 months were realized in the amount of 52.5 billion ALL, 4.4 billion ALL or 9.3% more than the same period of 2023.
