Albania, the new "station" for foreign workers - They earned 1.1

Albania is turning into a country of labor migration, becoming an increasingly popular destination for foreign citizens. In the first three months of 2025 alone, the income that foreign workers have benefited from working in Albania reached 11.1 million euros, or about 1.1 billion lekë.

Official data published by the Bank of Albania show an increase of 12% compared to the same period last year and 17% compared to the first quarter of 2023.

This trend is not accidental. The increase in income is directly related to the significant increase in the number of foreign workers operating legally, and not only in the Albanian labor market.

According to data from the State Labor Inspectorate for 2024, out of about 200,000 workplaces inspected across the country, 12,500 foreign nationals were identified as employed. This means that 1 in every 16 employees checked by inspectors turns out to be a foreigner.

In this new panorama, the countries from which these workers come most often stand out. Egypt, the Philippines, India and Turkey are among the main sources of foreign labor in Albania, while for sectors such as construction, hospitality and services, the demand for such workers continues to grow.

At the same time, more and more Albanian companies are choosing to fill market shortages by recruiting foreign workers.

The growing demand for work permits is also clearly reflected in data from the National Employment and Skills Agency, which reports that work permit applications have increased at annual rates ranging from 15 to 18%.
