"Albania, energy sovereignty until 2030" - Karakaçi: We are working with internationals to create an energy financing and efficiency fund

By 2030, Albania aims to no longer depend on energy imports and thus create energy sovereignty. This was stated by the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Enea Karakaçi, at the Conference of the Association of Foreign Investors in Albania, as he emphasized, among other things, that work is being done with international partners to create an energy financing and efficiency fund.
"What is our objective? It is very clear. Albania, from a country dependent on imports, to return within 2030 to an exporting country and to be able to have energy sovereignty. Another important element is energy efficiency, we have definitely had programs to support energy efficiency, but I think this is where we can do more. We have not succeeded enough to have an energy efficiency fund and for this reason we are working very seriously with one of the international financiers to create a financing fund and an energy efficiency fund so that we can have continuous programs for energy efficiency", said the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy.
Albania is focused on strengthening international networks and connections. Investment in existing lines, new interconnection projects and plans for interconnection with European markets are strategic steps to turn Albania into a strategic energy transmission hub in the region, Karakaçi said.
"Today, about 10% of domestic production comes from solar energy, thus creating a new energy pole and significantly reducing dependence on climatic conditions. But the transformation, we must say, does not stop only at production, recent events in Europe remind us that energy security is not only linked to production, but also to transmission. Everywhere in Europe today there is talk about transmission, everywhere in Europe today there is talk about capacities. At the end of the day, if we want to build new generation capacities, it is important to also build transmission capacities ," said Karakaçi.
According to him, Albania has experienced an energy transformation in the last 5 years. Through deep reforms, a sustainable system has been created, institutions have been strengthened and production has been modernized.
