Albania facilitates recognition of foreign diplomas/ Procedures are accelerated for EU and US countries

The recognition of diplomas obtained abroad is expected to become faster and with fewer bureaucratic procedures. The Ministry of Education has approved changes to the instruction that regulates the recognition and unification of diplomas, professional certificates, scientific degrees and academic titles issued by foreign higher education institutions.
One of the main changes relates to the review deadlines. According to the new guidance, diplomas and professional certificates obtained in the European Union, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, Norway, Israel, Switzerland, Iceland, Australia and Turkey will be recognized within 5 working days, provided that the documentation is complete and in order.
The amendments also provide for the facilitation of verification procedures. The Educational Services Center will request additional confirmations from foreign universities only in cases where there is reasonable doubt about the validity of the documents. For diplomas issued by recognized institutions in the aforementioned countries, additional verifications will be avoided if the documentation is found to be in order.
Another innovation concerns applicants who were unable to complete the documentation on time. In cases where the file has been archived due to lack of documents, citizens will have the right to reapply without making a new payment to the Educational Services Center. Also, after the recognition of the diploma, the calculation of the grade point average will not be performed automatically, but only at the request of the applicant and within a period of 5 working days. The instruction also brings changes in the way of organizing the commissions that review the scientific degrees "Doctor" and academic titles obtained abroad, while the relevant decisions and certificates will be issued electronically by the QSHA.
