Skopje Summit: Albania, closer than ever to the EU - Enlargement Commissioner:

Albania is closer than ever to the European Union, said the European Union Commissioner and Prime Minister Rama during the summit held in Skopje between the leaders of the Western Balkans and the European Union.Skopje Summit: Albania, closer than ever to the EU - Enlargement Commissioner:

Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, emphasized once again that Albania has made progress both in terms of the membership process and in terms of the implementation of the Economic Growth Plan, while the aim is for negotiations for the last group of chapters to open in the fall.

“For the first time in the history of Europe, if we do the enlargement process properly, we can achieve the Union of our Europe, and a Europe cannot be united without the Western Balkans. I want to be very clear, today there is a clear consensus in favor of enlargement, this has not been the case in the past, but the window of this opportunity cannot be there forever. We are witnessing a significant progress. Albania, honorable Prime Minister Rama, has opened 3 group chapters over the last six months. I thank you for your role and contribution to the success of this enlargement process. If we continue with the same commitment, we can manage to open all group chapters within this year. And, as I told you yesterday, I can't wait to celebrate the opening of the last group chapter in the fall.”

Meanwhile, in a statement to the media, Prime Minister Rama stated that so far we have properly fulfilled the obligations for the implementation of the Economic Growth Plan.

"Today we are here for another stop on the common path related to the implementation of the Growth Plan, a Plan that is progressing well and is bringing us closer and closer to the European Union every day. We are very proud, because we have practically fulfilled all the points for implementation so far and continue with the other points according to the schedule. We have never been closer to realizing a centuries-old aspiration, I would say, and on the other hand, I am glad that there is a general positive atmosphere in this regard. We are very close, we have never been closer, and I strongly believe that we will fulfill all the obligations as we have foreseen the deadlines with the European Commission and the Common Plan will be fully realized."

During the summit, an investment package worth €87.7 million will also be proposed by the European Commission under the existing Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF).
