How many banking transactions are carried out via telephone? - BoA: In 2024, 22% more home banking transactions were recorded
Checking account balances, transaction history, making transfers between bank accounts, paying electricity, water, telephone bills, police fines, credit card payments, taxes and carrying out many other transactions, only through an application on the phone, or the bank's website. This is home banking, or in other words, banking at home, through which all these services can be performed, without the need to appear at physical bank branches. But, how much is it used by Albanians?
The latest data from the Bank of Albania shows that a total of 9.3 million transactions were carried out through bank applications or their websites in 2024. This figure has increased by 22% compared to 2023. According to official statistics, the amount of transactions carried out through home banking reached 2.3 billion lek, 19% more than in the previous year.
The greater increase in number than in value indicates that more transactions were carried out in 2024, but not necessarily their amount was very high. Despite the fact that 2024 marked the highest number and value of transactions, if we calculate it in terms of growth, then it turns out that in a time frame of 10 years, 2018 was the year with the highest percentage growth.
In the past year, December marked the highest number and value of home banking transactions, while January marked the lowest. Specifically, at the beginning of the year, around 651 thousand transactions were carried out via telephone, while at the end of the year, over 940 thousand. The figures speak of a constant increase in transactions carried out with home banking from month to month.
Making transfers through mobile banking apps saves a lot more time than doing so in physical bank branches. Financial transactions can often be completed within minutes at home.
