Almost 61% of the volume of the secondary market of Government securities realized outside the Stock Exchange in the first nine months of the year is dominated by transactions in bonds, while treasury bonds make up only 39%. Despite the fact that bonds have more volume, seen from the point of view of the number of transactions, 83.94% of all transactions of the secondary market of Government securities outside the Stock Exchange are made in treasury bonds.

Individual investors, i.e. the citizens themselves, have been the most active in the secondary market of Government securities outside the Stock Exchange. Official data from the Financial Supervision Authority show that about 98.16% of all transactions in this market are dominated by individual investors.

The sale of Government bonds to the investor from the portfolio of the bank or commission company has had an increase of 3.6 billion ALL or 98.98% compared to the period January-September 2023. Meanwhile, the number of transactions has decreased to the extent of 7.59%. On the other hand, the purchase of Government securities by the bank or commission company before the maturity date by the investor, had a decrease of 423 million ALL or 17.13%. The number of transactions has decreased by 17.40% compared to the nine months of last year.

Treasury bonds are short-term securities that mature (expire) in less than one year from the date of their release to the market, while government bonds are long-term securities that mature in a period longer than one year. Government securities are a relatively safe investment, attractive to individual investors looking for safe returns, especially in Treasury bills and bonds.
