Roads and corridors, Albania a key gateway for investments - Angjeli: Strategic projects bring development, high demand for liquidity
Recent forecasts for sustainable growth indicate economic stability supported by energy, tourism, construction, etc.
Former Finance Minister Anastas Angjeli told SCAN that Albania, compared to other countries in the region, is considered a stable country with sustainable development and increased exports, which increased by 10.4% in 2025 alone. Meanwhile, according to him, our country is considered to have an easing monetary policy for business and citizens.
"We have followed a policy of easing interest rates, the 2.5% reduction at the end of last year has proven to be the right policy that has been transmitted and has brought development. Secondly, the fact that businesses have increased their demand for credit and credit has increased by 14.4% shows that the economy is in demand for liquidity. All of this was done at a time of appreciation of the lek in relation to other currencies and this has been a support for citizens and business in general. Of course, this appreciation cannot continue indefinitely, because it can turn into its opposite. But, the Bank of Albania is vigilant," said Angjeli.
According to Prof. Angjeli, large infrastructure investments, as well as those in tourism, bring more development, as Albania, although a small country, is a key gateway to the Balkans and Europe.
"When we talk about large investments, we should not only look at them in the context of economic development, but also in relation to other Balkan countries. We are talking about infrastructure, we are becoming part of the support with EU funds, and there are infrastructure works that are being developed in Albania, but that connect it with certain corridors with other Balkan countries to Europe. The fact that we want to welcome large strategic investors, whether in tourism or in the manufacturing industry, we should take into account not only the Albanian market, but also the Balkan one. Therefore, I think that this strategy that should be followed will serve the economic development of the country more" - adds Prof. Anastas Angjeli.
Albania is at a point where it needs to harmonize developments, according to Angjeli, as it has embraced technological developments, but the independence of the economy in some sectors must be increased.
