The Municipality of Tirana has announced the opening of the competition for the reconstruction of the secondary axis Tirana-Durres, up to the Kashari overpass. The estimated limit fund for this investment reaches the value of 594 million and 907 thousand lekë. This project aims to significantly improve the road infrastructure and increase safety for its users.

The secondary axis starts from the roundabout at Hygea Hospital and ends at the Rinas overpass, near Megatek. On its right side, the road accesses numerous industrial facilities and several villages such as: Laknas, Domje, etc.

According to the document in the Public Procurement Agency, this road axis has a total length of about 6,839 linear meters and is characterized by a two-lane carriageway, each with a width of 3.25 meters. This project foresees that the axis will be treated with all the necessary elements of modern road infrastructure, with the aim of improving the quality of life of the community of this area. The interventions will specifically include the construction of road layers, sidewalks, lighting, white water drainage, greenery and signage.

Referring to the document, the road has a very high importance for the city of Tirana because in addition to serving to access businesses and villages, it also serves to relieve traffic during peak times. So, all vehicles entering from the south of the country or leaving Tirana have an option to pass through this axis, in case of heavy traffic. And likewise, there is a higher number of cars passing every day, due to the increase in the area's population with residential buildings and this has further increased the need for infrastructure interventions.

The document states that field inspections have identified a number of problems in the existing condition of the road. In some segments, the asphalt layers appear damaged, with potholes, while in other areas surface cracks in the asphalt are observed. Also, the current sidewalks are made of poor concrete and do not meet the standards required for a functional and safe urban infrastructure.

Meanwhile, interventions will also be made in the existing sewer system, where the addition of several new manholes between existing segments is foreseen, with the aim of increasing efficiency and preventing flooding during rainfall.

This project aims to improve road infrastructure, increase safety for its users, and ease traffic, according to the Public Procurement Agency document.
