Record increase in construction wages! - Expert: Due to labor shortage, workers are being imported from abroad
Wages continued to increase steadily throughout the last three months of last year, but what stands out most is that in the construction sector, employee salaries increased by 15% compared to the last quarter of 2023, reaching 67 thousand lek, according to data from the Institute of Statistics.
"The increase in wages has not come about due to increased inspections by the Labor Inspectorate, but as a result of the high demand for workers. The construction market is suffering greatly from this situation, because we have a construction 'boom', while the number of workers remains limited. For this reason, workers are being imported from third countries, which is translating into higher costs" - said real estate expert, Ervin Demirxhiu.
But, the actions against informality have also had an impact on the increase in wages in this sector. The labor shortage is not only expected to bring an increase in wages for employees in this sector, but also directly affects the increase in the price of apartments due to the increase in construction costs.
"Of course, this factor has a significant impact on the price of the final product. Construction sector workers are being paid better, which increases costs and is reflected in the final sales price of apartments ," said expert Demirxhiu.
According to data from the Institute of Statistics, around 1,336 building permits were issued last year, remaining at high levels and ensuring that the demand for labor remains high.
