Overall inflation for February was 1.9%, according to the latest INSTAT publication. One of the categories that has recorded the highest growth is that of "Milk, cheese and eggs", which ranks among the main sectors within the food group with an inflation rate of 2.8%.

However, compared to the same period a year ago, this category has marked a decrease of 2.1 percentage points, as in February 2023 inflation for this product group was 4.9%.

Meanwhile, according to Eurostat data, milk prices in the European Union countries have experienced a significant increase. In the last quarter of 2024, milk prices in the EU increased by an average of 15.3%, compared to the same period in 2023. The largest increases were recorded in Ireland (+43.7%), Lithuania (+33.2%), Belgium (+30.8%) and Sweden.

But what has been the trend in Albania?

The data shows that in our country, too, the price of milk has undergone changes during the last quarter of 2024. In October, a liter of milk cost 156.2 lekë, in November the price increased slightly to 156.4 lekë, while in December it fell to 155.9 lekë. On the other hand, if we refer again to the price list from INSTAT, a liter of milk in January of this year cost around 155.7 lekë.

Despite the significant increase in the price of milk in Europe, it continues to remain lower than in Albania. For the last quarter of 2024, the average price of milk in EU countries was around 0.53 euros per liter, equivalent to around 53.3 lekë, which is significantly lower than the price in the Albanian market.
