How well do Albanians speak English? - Global Relocate ranks us 40th in the world, but we remain at the bottom in Europe
Global Relocate has recently released some statistics that rank English language skills for 2025 and show how well the language is spoken in some countries around the world. These statistics note that Albania ranks well in terms of English language proficiency, ranking 40th in the world out of 117 countries.
This data is collected based on testing 2.2 million adults in 100 countries, which allows for an accurate assessment of English language proficiency worldwide.
Global Relocate ranked the Netherlands in first place, scoring 647 points and with a literacy rate of 99%.
On the other hand, Albania has managed to accumulate 533 points and, based on the reading and writing of the material, it has been evaluated with 98%. Referring also to the data from the Census, 37,033 Albanian citizens speak a foreign language in addition to their native one.
Compared to a year ago, Albania has managed to rank 3 places higher in the table, as in 2024 it was in 43rd place.
But in terms of European countries, Albania is in the bottom 2 places, not ranking so positively on the continent.
On the other hand, Albania has left behind highly developed countries such as: France (44th place), China (85th place), Japan (90th place), etc.
Another factor that is noticeable is that European countries top the list, speaking English better than the rest of the world.
The last place in the ranking is South Sudan, where the lowest English proficiency was recorded among the inhabitants. However, global statistics show that people aged 26-30 are most proficient in English.
