Albanians' savings in euros "recover" - BoA: Deposits included in

Deposits included in broad money have continued to expand in the past month. Newly published data from the Bank of Albania show that total deposits reached 1.4 trillion lek in July, an increase of 1.2% compared to June.

Deposits included in broad money refer to all money that citizens and businesses hold in banks, i.e. money in bank accounts, savings accounts, short-term or long-term deposits, and others.

Foreign currency savings have returned to growth in July, after a decline in the previous month. It seems that the depreciation of the euro, which prompted many citizens to move away from holding savings in the European currency and opt for more deposits in lek during June, is no longer influencing individuals' decision-making as much. Likewise, low interest rates.

Most of our money in the bank turns out to be in foreign currency. Deposits in the national currency are estimated at 665 billion lek, 1.5% more than in June. Meanwhile, deposits in foreign currency reach a figure of 741 billion lek, a value almost 1% higher than in the previous month.

Meanwhile, according to Bank of Albania statistics, transferable deposits, which refer to the money we hold in our bank accounts, reached 390 billion lek in July, while those in foreign currency reached 365 billion lek.

Demand deposits and other types of deposits come with a smaller amount and a lighter increase compared to June.

Meanwhile, as regards foreign currency deposits included in broad money, the figures also show an increase in highly liquid deposits (demand deposits) and other types of deposits.
