How much did Albanians use the internet from smart devices? Eurostat ranks us

The phone and computer continue to be the main devices for connecting to the internet, but recently "smart" technology has been gaining more and more ground. iPads, smartwatches and other similar devices have entered the daily lives of citizens, changing the way we connect to the online world.

According to Eurostat data for 2024, 70.9% of European Union citizens used internet-connected devices, known as the Internet of Things (IoT). This is a clear indication of the widespread adoption of smart technology on the continent.

But how is the situation in Albania? Statistics show that 49.7% of the population has used the internet through “smart” devices. A figure that can be considered relatively high, considering the third age that makes up the majority of the population. However, compared to the region, Albania ranks last. Bosnia and Herzegovina leads with 60.6% of users, followed by Serbia with 60.49% and North Macedonia with 54.59%. Slightly higher than Albania is Montenegro with 52.7%.

Even on a continental scale, our country does not appear in a very favorable position, ranking among the last three countries. At the top of the list is the Netherlands, where 94.8% of the population uses Internet-connected devices, followed by Ireland (90.6%) and Denmark (87%). On the other hand, the lowest figures were recorded in Poland (46.1%) and Bulgaria (50.8%).

While Europe is rapidly moving towards an increasingly connected life with 'smart' technology, Albania is still in the race not to be left behind. The challenge is not only the use of devices, but also adapting to a lifestyle where the internet is no longer just a tool, but an inseparable part of everyday life.
