Rainfall, Minister Koçiu in Durrës: Institutions on full alert, hydropower plants functional to manage the situation

Minister of Internal Affairs Albana Koçiu, from Durrës, emphasized that all structures are fully prepared to deal with the situation created by the heavy rainfall of the last few hours.
During the inspection of the new hydroelectric power plant of the Durrës municipality, she underlined that the parallel operation of the two hydroelectric power plants, the new one and the existing one, has been crucial to avoid an aggravated situation in the city.
"The rains have brought a worrying situation, but all institutions are on the ground and on full alert. The next 12 hours remain critical and our focus is on managing the situation and ensuring the safety of citizens. The damage assessment process, which has already begun in some areas, will then continue," said Minister Koçiu, appealing to citizens to avoid unnecessary movements and follow the instructions of local authorities.
The Mayor of Durrës, Emiriana Sako, confirmed that critical infrastructure is functioning without interruption. She announced that the new hydropower plant, built with government funds, has been in full operation for about 48 hours, with all pumps active, while the old hydropower plant is also functional with 6 pumps and reserve capacities for electricity supply.
"Without the functioning of these facilities, it would be impossible to manage the situation. They are monitored 24 hours a day by technical staff and are of vital importance to the city in cases of emergencies," emphasized Mayor Sako.
Authorities confirm that monitoring continues without interruption and that all emergency structures are on standby to react to any further developments in the situation.
