Albanians at the wheel, what do they prefer? From the preferred brand,

"Scan Intel" has meticulously processed the data of the General Directorate of Road Transport Services (DPSHTRR) regarding new registered vehicles, answering many questions, such as: What are the latest trends? What is the favorite brand of Albanians for cars? Do Albanians prefer cars with automatic or manual transmissions? Which fuel do they prefer? When is the preferred period to buy a car? Let's take them one by one.

During 2025, a total of about 98,900 vehicles were registered, of which over 80,000 were cars. It is also estimated that about 33 types of vehicles and 721 different brands were registered in 2025.

Meanwhile, by the end of the year we left behind in Albania, there were a total of about 1 million vehicles and over 847 thousand cars. This figure, placed against the number of families, highlights a significant fact: on average, every Albanian family owns at least one car, with a ratio of 1.07 cars per family.

July, the favorite month to buy a car

The summer months also seem to have marked the highest level of registrations, with July standing out with 10,000 vehicles registered, followed by June with approximately 9,400.

It seems that the "Mercedes" will not be the king of the road for much longer.

Data for 2025. Volkswagen had the highest number of registrations with around 18,000 vehicles. Mercedes ranked second followed by Audi, Hyundai, Toyota and BYD.

Automatic or manual? Albanians no longer have doubts

While overall, vehicles with manual transmissions outnumber those with automatic or semi-automatic transmissions, in recent years the trend has changed. Data from the General Directorate of Road Transport Services (GDRT) for 2025 show that the number of vehicles registered for the first time by transmission is in favor of vehicles with automatic transmissions.

The ratio is fixed at around 71%, while the weight of vehicles registered for the first time with manual transmission is fixed at around 29%, or around 25 thousand registrations. This gap seems to not only be narrowing, but will go in the opposite direction, reflecting the progress of recent years.

Diesel, petrol, gas or electric?

Last year, the vast majority of registered vehicles had diesel engines, more precisely 60% of the total. Gasoline cars, meanwhile, account for 25% of the total number of vehicles registered in all regional road transport directorates during 2025. Around 5%, meanwhile, are vehicles that use a combination of gas and gasoline, while electric cars account for around 6% of the total.

Referring to the figures, around 6 thousand electric vehicles were registered in the past year. December had the highest volume with 875 registrations, followed by June with 658 electric vehicles.

What year of production were the vehicles registered during 2025?

The numbers say that about 55.2% of them were produced in the last 8-15 years, while about 24.7% were produced before 15 years. Meanwhile, vehicles registered with a production year of 0 to 4 years have a weight of 14.9% of the total.

South Korea is preferred!

Data on registered vehicles in 2025 by country of origin show a clear dominance of South Korea, which accounts for the largest share of the total with 21.4%, ranking as the main source of vehicles. It is followed by Germany and Italy with almost equal percentages, respectively 15.7% and 15.2%, which demonstrates a strong presence of the European automotive industry. China represents 9.2% of registrations, reflecting the gradual increase of vehicles of Asian origin, while Switzerland and the United States contribute around 8% each. Canada has a more limited share with 4.4%.
