Record number of visitors to cultural and historical sites - Prime Minister Rama: 57% increase compared to last year
The number of foreign visitors to our cultural and historical sites is increasing. Prime Minister Edi Rama announced in a post on social networks that from January to September a total of 1 million 259 thousand 774 visitors were counted, an increase of 57% compared to the previous year. This proves the interest of foreign tourists in the Albanian cultural heritage.
But what are the most visited destinations?
In addition to coastal tourism, more and more tourists are choosing to explore Albanian history, traditions, and cultural heritage.
According to the figures, the Butrint Archaeological Park ranks first, attracting tourists from all over the world with 257,670 visitors. Further, the Gjirokastra Castle, part of the world heritage, has registered 253,407 visitors. The Shkodra Archaeological Park has welcomed 150,927 tourists. The National Museum “Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg” continues to be one of the main cultural attractions, especially for visitors who want to learn about the history of the Albanian resistance to the Ottoman Empire, where it has registered 147,178 visitors; and the Apollonia Archaeological Park has counted 109,669 visitors.
Tourism has become a year-round activity. The increase in the number of tourists shows that cultural tourism is taking on an increasingly important role in economic development and promoting the image of our country in the world.
Albania is affirming itself as a destination rich in history, culture, and a unique identity.
According to figures from the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports, from January to September 2025, Albania welcomed a total of 10.228 million visitors, marking an increase of 6% compared to the same period in 2024.
