4,577 22-year-old cars deregistered - Why are vehicles left in technical

The General Directorate of Road Transport Services has published data for the period January-July 2025, regarding the technical inspection service of vehicles in circulation. During this period, 167,046 vehicles were tested and 24.3% of them failed.

According to official statistics, 86.2% of the vehicles tested are 4+1 to 8+1 seat vehicles. The Tirana region leads with the highest number of tests conducted, with 35.6% followed by Durrës and Fier, as they are the cities with the highest concentrated population and vehicle fleet. Meanwhile, the Gjirokastra region maintains the lowest number of vehicles tested.

But what are the main reasons for the delay, which need to be improved to retest the tools?

As for the reasons for vehicle immobilisation, 34.9% were due to visual and functional deficiencies; 37.8% due to the exhaust system; 13% due to problems with the steering system and 14.8% due to problems with the braking system.

According to the data, 4,577 vehicles with an average age of 22 years have been permanently deregistered because they did not meet the technical conditions for circulation. This indicator shows the necessity for the renewal of the road fleet in the country.

DPSHTRR reminds that odometer interference, constructive changes and any other interference that poses a threat to road safety are strictly prohibited. Likewise, citizens can book an appointment at e-Albania, to carry out the Technical Control.
