Reporting to Parliament, Dumani: We need a digital wallet, we have seized 11 million euros of cryptocurrencies
The Special Prosecution Office has seized 11 million euros in cryptocurrencies during 2024. The figure was mentioned by SPAK head Altin Dumani during his report to the parliamentary committee on laws. Dumani requested that legal initiatives be taken to enable a digital wallet for holding the seized cryptocurrencies. Albania does not currently have a digital wallet. Dumani emphasized that an EU country helped them hold the 11 million euros in crypto. The SPAK head announced that they currently have over 11 million euros in other cryptocurrencies, which are frozen.
"We do not have a wallet to store the seized cryptocurrencies. Neither does the Agency for the Administration of Seized and Confiscated Assets have a digital wallet. In 2024 alone, we seized over 11 million euros worth of cryptocurrencies and we encountered difficulties. We solved the problem by closely cooperating with an EU country that offered itself to us, it was a very big effort. We are in the process of freezing an amount greater than 11 million euros, they are frozen," said Altin Dumani.
Meanwhile, according to Dumani in the parliamentary committee, during 2024, SPAK has seized and confiscated 65.5 million euros of criminal assets. According to Dumani, out of the 65.5 million euros, 28.7 million euros have been seized and 36.7 million euros have been confiscated.
