As the collapse of the road on the Librazhd - Prrenjas axis has blocked the movement of vehicles towards the southeast from the main axis, Prime Minister Edi Rama has shared a video on social networks showing the work on the construction of Corridor VIII. He has considered the construction of this axis a colossal job, focusing especially on the river protection, which is an integral part of the project. Also, according to him, the landslide in the place called "Arrat e Gurrës" is not related to the colossal investment for Corridor VIII, implying that it came about due to natural causes.

This reaction comes at a time when some experts declare that the landslide is a consequence of the works carried out for the construction of the new axis of Corridor VIII, while civil society organizations have raised numerous concerns regarding the interventions in the bed and banks of the Shkumbin River. Through a press release, the organizations announced that they have identified changes in the morphology of the river, the extraction of inert materials from the bed and banks, as well as the deposition of excavation materials in the vicinity or within the water body. According to them, these interventions may affect water quality, biodiversity, the stability of the banks and the natural balance of the river ecosystem.

Meanwhile, regarding the situation created by the road blockage, the Albanian Road Authority announced that work continues even at night to clean the surface of the landslide road body for taking geological samples. According to the ARRSH, the works for the river diversion have been completed, while works for the alternative road body are expected to begin after the completion of the project review in this area.

"The works are being carried out with additional equipment and personnel, respecting all technical and road safety standards to restore traffic as soon as possible," the ARA announced.
