Prime Minister Edi Rama stated today that the airport sector occupies an important place in the government's priorities for the development of infrastructure in the country.

In his speech before the Socialist Party group, Rama praised the achievements of the Albanian aviation sector, emphasizing that citizens' accessibility to flights has increased from 13% in 2019 to 34% today.

“The liberalization of the air market has brought new operators, reduced ticket prices and increased the number of flights, making Tirana the key point of regional aviation ,” said the Prime Minister. He recalled the time when tickets for flights from Albania were among the most expensive in Europe, underlining that today Tirana International Airport has the largest capacity in the Western Balkans, surpassing Belgrade Regional Airport.

"Tirana Airport offers 80 destinations and 27 airlines, processing 11.6 million passengers in 2025, an increase of 247% compared to 2019," Rama said.

The Prime Minister also announced that Vlora International Airport is in the final phase of construction.

It will serve not only for transoceanic flights, but also for new business operations in aviation, including cargo and aircraft maintenance, according to agreements signed with international partners.

"For the first time, Vlora Airport is not just a promise, but a concrete project ready to be used to its fullest potential ," said Rama, underlining the importance of this investment for the country's economic and tourist development.

Rama underlined that the Albanian government aims to continue expanding airport capacities and improve international air connections, making Albania an important aviation reference point in the region.
