Government adopts decisions on fishing inspection, weapons production and accession to the Marrakesh Treaty

The Media and Information Agency announces that the Council of Ministers has approved several important decisions and draft laws today at its weekly meeting.
One of the main decisions concerns the definition of inspection rules for the prevention, reduction and elimination of illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing. This decision also establishes a certification scheme for fish catches, which will be applied to all IUU fishing activities inside and outside the territory of Albania, according to Law no. 64/2012 “On Fishing”.
Another approved decision authorizes the state joint-stock company “KAYO” sh.a. to, by itself or through its entities, carry out the production and trade of weapons, ammunition, equipment, technologies and services for security structures and state joint-stock companies related to them. This decision aims to ensure the supply of these entities in accordance with Law no. 88/2024.
At the same time, the government has proposed the draft law “On the accession of the Republic of Albania to the Marrakesh Treaty”, which facilitates access to published works for persons who are blind, visually impaired or have limited ability to read printed texts. This draft law will be sent for review and approval to the Assembly of the Republic of Albania.
