The 79 million euro energy program comes into effect - From grants for 8,000 families to the installation of 130 charging stations for electric cars
The multiannual operational programme for energy under the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA III), worth EUR 79 million, will enter into force in 15 days. The financing agreement has been published in the Official Journal, paving the way for its implementation.
The funding consists of 50 million euros from the EU budget, while the remaining 29 million euros are co-financed by the Albanian government. According to the document, 3 areas of support are foreseen, including direct grants to citizens.
The first area includes support for renewable energy and energy efficiency of buildings and will be through investments, which will be carried out in public buildings in four selected municipalities, including offices, kindergartens, libraries, social and cultural centers, etc.
In addition, the operational program will co-finance renewable energy sources and energy efficiency measures in around 8,000 private households through a series of grant schemes.
The second area of support includes the use of high-speed charging infrastructure for electric vehicles. It will focus on the harmonization of the acquis, investments, technical assistance, as well as feasibility studies.
In terms of investments, the operational program will assist in the installation of 130 electric vehicle charging stations, power transformers (if necessary) and an improved technological system for managing the charging station network.
Meanwhile, the third area of support is energy efficiency and environmental protection in the water sector. The investment component will focus on providing energy efficiency measures, as well as replacing pumping systems in the water supply infrastructure for seven water utilities. In addition, small stand-alone photovoltaic systems with a total combined capacity of up to 15 MW will be installed.
The execution period of the financial agreement will begin upon its entry into force and will end 12 years after this date.
