Electricity production, 8 million mWh - ERE: Preliminary data from network operators, tariff for Guarantee of Origin approved

The amount of electricity produced in 2025 is estimated at around 8 million MWh, according to the Energy Regulatory Authority, based on preliminary data from network operators. The figure was made public in a decision related to Guarantee of Origin Certificates, as this indicator serves to determine the value of the obligation for companies that want to obtain the certificate. However, the official amount of electricity produced in the past year will be made public in the future and the figure of 8 million MWh may change.
Meanwhile, as for the Guarantee of Origin Certificate, the fee to be paid for its issuance for 2026 will be 0.03 euros/mWh.
The “Guarantee of Origin” is an electronic document, which has the sole function of proving to the end consumer that part or all of the electricity used by him was produced from renewable sources. This includes energy from renewable sources such as wind, solar, hydropower, biomass, etc.
Currently, any natural or legal person or entity has the right to apply to be registered in the ERE's register of guarantees of origin, being categorized according to different roles, more specifically: Producer, supplier/trader, Renewable Energy Operator, trader of guarantees of origin or end customer.
Purchasing Guarantee of Origin certificates is the only way to reliably document renewable energy consumption in Europe. A Guarantee of Origin brings benefits to companies, providing proven and verifiable emission reductions. They are an efficient, recognised and legally supported means of documenting and formalising a commitment to sustainable electricity.
