"The EU membership process is more likely than ever" - Gonzato: Albania is taking advantage of the opportunities it is being given
The Western Balkan countries are moving ever closer towards membership in the European Union.
At a regional meeting held in Tirana for the "Social Dialogue" with the Western Balkan countries, the European Union Ambassador to Albania, Silvio Gonzato, emphasized that Albania is seizing its opportunities and the EU supports it in its ambitious objective of closing integration negotiations by 2027.
"There is indeed an opportunity for us to become part of the European Union, more than a country seeking enlargement by the end of the mandate of this European Commission. This is an important innovation, as it brings a new dynamic. Another feature of this process is that countries are already benefiting from EU membership even before they become full member states. I can confidently say that Albania is one of those countries that is using these opportunities, which is why it has an ambitious plan to complete membership negotiations by the end of 2027. "
Also present at the meeting was the Deputy Minister of Economy, Culture and Innovation, Olta Manjani, who stated that Albania is the first country in the region to have taken concrete steps towards EU membership.
"Albania has embraced this opportunity with determination. We are the first in the region to have launched reforms that enable what is called pre-financing, which means reforms that show how ready we are to translate EU integration into tangible improvements. At the heart of these reforms is precisely the development of human capital and sustainable, inclusive growth."
This meeting precedes the First Meeting of the European Joint Consultative Socio-Economic Committee, which will take place on April 4.
