3 million euros for the Qukës-Qafë Plloçë road - ARRSH

The completion of the works on the first lot of the Qukës – Qafë Plloçë road axis will be carried out with budgetary funds. The Albanian Road Authority has signed a contract with the company that will carry out the works, following the tender held in November last year. The value of the contract is around 3 million euros, while the works will be carried out by the Albavia company.

The tender for the completion of the works was opened after a field verification of the existing condition of this axis, taking into account the long time that has passed since the initial start of the works.

The tender documents stated that work on this segment began in June 2009 and was completed in December 2014.

Meanwhile, during their implementation, a massive landslide occurred, where in addition to the village on the left side of the road, the road itself, concrete retaining walls, works of art, etc. were significantly damaged.

As a result of the landslide, the axis was shifted by a length of about 800 ml, which was associated with an additional cost of 20% of the contract value. However, even with the additional funds, the facility was not 100% completed and was not put into use, as the road layers, horizontal and vertical signage, some elements of the bridge, etc. remained unimplemented.

Therefore, for the axis to be accessible to vehicles, a series of works are needed, which will be carried out through a new contract signed by the ARA.

In addition to Lot I, work is currently underway on 2 other lots to complete this road, while it was previously stated that the works are expected to be completed in 2025. The Qukës - Qafë Plloçë road axis has a total length of 43.8 km and will be a category C1 road where the permitted speed will be 80 - 90 km/hour.
