New port in Porto Romano, bidding company withdraws/ Karakaçi: Due to economic costs, political reasons will not stop the project
The bidder for the construction of the new Commercial Port in Porto Romano has withdrawn for economic reasons. Speaking to the media after the government meeting, the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Enea Karakaçi, said that the reason for the withdrawal given by the consortium is the increase in overall construction costs, but the process will continue anyway, with the aim of realizing the project.
Karakaçi recalled the statement made a few days ago by the Prime Minister, who warned that there are various actors trying to sabotage this important infrastructure project for the country, but added that an alternative scenario will be built to move the investment forward.
The tender for the construction of the new commercial port in Porto Romano was initially opened in July 2024, but it was not successfully finalized, being re-announced in December of the same year. The tender competition was for the first phase of the project, which includes the development of a container terminal, while the limit fund made available was 39.32 billion lek or about 400 million euros.
