Pensions, which regions are the oldest? Tirana holds the record for the number

The number of pensioners in Albania is increasing due to the aging population, the phenomenon of emigration and the decline in the birth rate, causing high pressure on the scheme.

But which are the "oldest" cities?

Referring to data from the Social Security Institute for 2024, the number of urban old-age pensioners reaches 525,421.

The region with the highest number of pensioners is Tirana with 138,506 pensioners, this is also because it has the highest population in the country, significantly surpassing other regions. Next is Fier Region with 62,309 pensioners, Vlora registers 52,218, followed by Korçë Region with 49,186 pensioners, Durrës Region with 48,479 and Elbasan with 42,395 pensioners.

The region with the lowest number of urban pensioners is Kukës with only 8,542 elderly individuals enjoying financial benefits.

As for old-age pensions in the village, the total number at the end of 2024 has reached 82,146.

The region with the highest number is again Tirana with 12,908 pensioners who benefit from financial support, followed by Fier Region with 11,321 pensioners and then Elbasan Region with 9,785 pensioners.

Even when it comes to rural pensions, the regions with the fewest beneficiaries are Gjirokastra with 3,550 and Kukës with 2,626 pensioners.

Meanwhile, the average monthly pension in the city has reached 19,609 lek per month and in the countryside 11,878 lek per month.
